I've found that I can reach this setting two ways but it seems only one works. From the home screen, you can hit menu>settings>sound & display>notification sound. This sets the default sound...THEN go to your All Messages screen>menu>settings>check play notification. Other than that, make sure things are straight in Quick Settings.

Yep. I made sure everything was right and exactly the same in all 3 menus. Nothing works tho.

Try uninstalling quick settings and then check if it works.

I did. I got rid of quick settings but still nothing different. I tried to set another sound and then set my custom one back but still nothing.

I got excited as I started reading this because I have the same issue with my vibration notification stopped but I want both, vibrate and sound and can't figure out why my vibration stopped, so I hope we both get something soon because it's frusterating!
My mytouch 3g slide used to vibrate when I received a text when I had it set to do so but now it's not, it only vibrates when I get a call...I've went through the settings of the normal text app and the one I use, Handcent SMS, and have tried everything and the stupid thing still won't vibrate with incoming texts...it just decided to stop one day, anyone know why or how to fix it??

OK I fixed the issue with my phone by removing the battery for a moment! I'm so happy it works now!!! Why I didn't think about removing the battery instead of just power cycling is beyond me! lol Thanks to all that helped! I hope it works for the other member who posted this topic and anyone else that has the issue as well!
